Have you ever been wounded by someone you loved or loved you? You’re in good company because David found himself in the same place and it gave him a ministry.

Saul: [Kingdoms of this world] Self-Centered, Demanding, Disobedient to God, Seeks His Own Glory
David: [Kingdom of God] Other-Centered, Giving/Self-Sacrificing, Obedient to God, Seeks the Glory of God

Episode Points:

David’s exile is education and preparation for helping those who are hurt by the Kingdom of Saul.
God’s preparation does not happen in the palaces of men, but in the wilderness of God.
“Before God can use a man greatly he must wound him deeply.” — Oswald Chambers.
If you trust God in the midst of your misery, your misery becomes your ministry.
The kingdom of Saul is self-absorbed and completely insecure.

A contrast between Saul and David:

Saul is self-absorbed and insecure: (1) Every moment is about himself. (2) Everyone is suspect. (3) Everyone is a threat. (4) Willing to kill for his kingdom. (5) Estranged from everyone he loved. (6) On the road to self-destruction.

David is made self-less and dependent on God: (1) Wounded by the Lord. (2) Made useful to those wounded in the world. (3) Contrite, Compassionate and Hungry for God. (4) Made ready to serve others.

Recognize the Following:

The title of Psalm 34: Of David, when he changed his behavior before Abimelech, so that he drove him out, and he went away.
The title of Psalm 143: A Maskil of David, when he was in the cave. A prayer.
When David is in trouble, he worships.
David’s worship in the midst of his hardship gives him a fellowship.
Self-absorbed people see everyone as a threat.
Surrendering is a process. It’s not a one-time thing. Day by day you grow closer and closer to Christ and stranger and stranger to the world
