There’s a deeper problem inside you that you don’t see.

Romans 7:24 (ESV) Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?

⚠️ OUR CURRENT CULTURAL MOMENT:⚠️

Little boy: “I feel like a girl in a boys body.”

Culture: “You are right in those feelings. We are going to change laws and science to accommodate you.”

The problem with modern preaching is that preachers offer advice, guidance, counsel, and care, but rarely (if ever) address the true nature of our sinfulness.

⚠️ BLAME CULTURE in the CHURCH ⚠️

Church Person: “The Pastor offended me with what he said.”

Church: “Okay, we will stop talking about that.”

⚠️ BLAME CULTURE in the MARRIAGE ⚠️

Married Person: “They just don’t make me happy.”

Solution: “That’s not right! Your happiness is paramount. Get out and find someone who will appreciate you!”

⚠️ BLAME CULTURE in the SOCIETY ⚠️

Person: “Your view offends me.”

Cultural Rulers (Big Tech): Suspend, silence and censor them.

Cultural Rulers (University): Disinvite speakers, fire professors, etc.

Cultural Rulers (Government): Vilify then Prosecute dissenters.

SPIRITUAL MATURITY: Is not an awareness that we are getting good but rather a humbling awareness that we are far more sinful than we realize and we need more of Jesus and the Holy Spirit every single day.

The only way to change is to FIRST realize you can’t:
You are worse than you realize.
The problem is sin inside you.
Sin inside you is more powerful than willpower.(Because willpower is also tainted by sin!)
I NEED SOMEONE TO SAVE ME.

Blame OR Change, YOUR CHOICE.

THE GREATEST BENEFIT TO OUR STRUGGLE WITH SIN: to teach us to rely more and more on God and less and less on ourselves.

Points to Note:

Uses of the law so far:

Reveals sin.
Restrains some measure of sin.
Destroys our confidence and Points us to Christ. (Spiritual)
Some say – morally guides the Christian (although the NT has a higher law).

The Christian’s response to sin is found in Romans 7:14-17.
Paul’s real problem is with himself.
Living under the Law makes things worse.

If the Problem Isn’t with You:

There’s very little you can do about it.
You will increasingly blame others for your problems.
You’ll become more distant with others.
You’ll become more and more judgmental of others.
Others will grow tired of you.
You’ll never get challenged and therefore never grow.
You’ll never find the solution offered in Christ!
