About This Project

Today we talk about one of the most important spiritual gifts that you can find in the church and the home and the government in the world… The problem is, it’s also the most boring-sounding spiritual gift that you can mention!

This gift is also one of the most important gifts that you can have in your life and you might not even know you have it!

This is why we go verse by verse through the books of the Bible because every Word of God breathes life into us. There is not a single word in the Scriptures that is not God-breathed, not profitable, not helpful, and not able to help you grow and develop yourself, your church, your business, and your family.

What is the Bible’s most boring spiritual gift? Let’s dive into and explain the meaning of 1 Kings 4!

Key Verses:

1 Kings 4:1-2 “King Solomon was king over all Israel, and these were his high officials: Azariah the son of Zadok was the priest”

1 Kings 4:20 “Judah and Israel were as many as the sand by the sea. They ate and drank and were happy.”

1 Kings 4:29-30 “And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding beyond measure, and breadth of mind like the sand on the seashore, so that Solomon’s wisdom surpassed the wisdom of all the people of the east and all the wisdom of Egypt.”

Kings 1 & 2 Facts:

  • Author: Unkown
  • Genre: Narrative History (400 years).

Theological History of Kings 1 & 2:

  • Begins with David’s end (970 bc), Solomon’s building and ends with national devastation – exile to Babylon (561 bc).
  • Good and Evil kings.
  • Each king has an epitaph… did they follow the Lord or not?
  • True and False Prophets abound.
  • God rules all nations, not just Israel.
  • The Main Theme: There is ONE God in Israel.

Solomon’s Government:

  • Azariah son of Zadok—the priest;
  • Elihoreph and Ahijah, sons of Shisha—secretaries;
  • Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud—recorder;
  • Benaiah son of Jehoiada—commander in chief;
  • Zadok and Abiathar—priests;
  • Azariah son of Nathan—in charge of the district officers;
  • Zabud son of Nathan—a priest and personal adviser to the king;
  • Ahishar—in charge of the palace;
  • Adoniram son of Abda—in charge of forced labor.

Points:

The Gift of Administration:

STRENGTHS:

  1. the ability to see the overall picture and think of long-range objectives
  2. the ability to delegate tasks to other people
  3. task orientation rather than person or need orientation
  4. the ability to counsel and motivate others regarding the task
  5. tending not to be a perfectionist, but rather judging tasks by objectives.

WEAKNESSESS:

  1. appearing to want to get out of work because of delegation.
  2. appearing insensitive to people and inflexible to plans because of commitment to long-range goals.
  3. being perceived as a glorified bureaucrat.

BE WARNED:

  1. becoming power-hungry
  2. using people to accomplish goals (manipulation)
  3. lowering standards to use anyone (in spite of character)

Tap into the Truth: God is a God of ORDER

  • In Creation – Sun/Moon/Stars rule
  • In Government – Kings/Princes/Admins
  • In the Home – Fathers, Mothers
  • In the Church – Pastors/Elders

WHAT does WISDOM look like?

  1. Selfless
  2. Serving
  3. Giving
  4. Administering

So that others may live.

(Biblical Wisdom) “is not only concerned with moral and accurate judgments but also with efficient and orderly structure that keeps chaos and waste from running life. Some of us deplore having to give attention to administrative and organizational matters, and one can so tightly structure life that one squeezes the breath out of it. Nevertheless, a few moments in a chaotic home or in a workplace lacking clear lines of authority can quickly create a thirst for order.”- Dale Ralph Davis

Questions to Consider:

  1. Are you a “control freak”?
  2. Do you find yourself trying to do it all?
  3. What does wisdom look like in your life?
  4. Are you either helping others with your gift of administration or seeking others with that gift to partner with you?

Pastoral Thought:

  • The Holy Spirit provides the gift of administration that brings ORDER and JOY to the people of God.
  • Authority is for RESPONSIBILITY to help people live happy and healthy.
  • WISDOM is not just for you. It’s for those who come after you and serve with you and (perhaps) under you.
  • If you don’t have this gift, partner with someone who does.
  • If you know someone with this gift, acknowledge it.
  • Remember this gift comes from God.
