I have heart it said in many ways:

“You are the only person who can use your ability.”

It speaks of gifts, talents, passions, and skills that God has deposited into your life.  Yet too many of us are sitting on the sidelines watching American Idol and thinking “They are special-I am not.”  In our pop-culture icon obsessed culture we are quick to diminish ourselves from the person God created US to be.  We think we’re less than the people who are larger-than life on the screen.

Here’s a thought that you’ve probably never considered.

In God’s opinion, you are a celebrity.

How so?

First: Because the God of the Universe paid big time to see you succeed.  It cost Him the death of His Son to make you right with Him.   2 Corinthians 8:9 “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.”

Second: Because the God of the Universe celebrates you!  When you repented of your sins, Heaven threw a party.  YES, heaven celebrated – FOR YOU!  Remember the words of Jesus: “I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Luke 15:10.  The word “celebrity” comes from the word “celebration.”  A party was thrown for you.  Think about that the next time you’re tempted to throw a pity party about where you are in life.

Third: Celebrities are often celebrities because of the unique contribution they bring to the world.  No one can do Jack Sparrow like Johnny Depp – that’s unique.  No one can pen lyrics like Bono – that’s unique.  No one could make cooking as interesting as Julia Childs – NOW SHE was UNIQUE!

But here’s the truth: NO ONE CAN BE YOU and DO WHAT YOU CAN DO in the WAY you DO IT.  You’re a celebrity in God.  You’re a unique contribution of the Creator of this Universe.  You are gifted, you are called, you are elected to great things already predetermined for you to do in Christ Jesus (Check out Ephesians 2:10 and underline it in your Bible).

“You are the only person who can use your ability.”

Are you using it?
