About This Project

The Supreme Court ruling is great news for the First Amendment– and all people! God bless the First Amendment! Be mindful of how important it is. The first amendment is what keeps us a free nation. When the government starts stepping in and telling religious people what to believe or when religious people step in and tell everyone else what to believe by government fiat that’s a problem. We have to stop the mantra that our neighbors are our enemies. We have to agree to disagree and not let the news media pit us against each other.

Interestingly there is no outrage by media over Apple China censoring 27 LGBTQ+ apps while the NBA, the MLB, and Apple itself have no problem partnering with China. Why the contradiction? They worship the almighty dollar–  it has nothing to do with respect for the LGBTQ people.

In other news, the new Barna Marriage Study found that practicing Christians are more satisfied in their marriages by far than any other group (including non-practicing Christians). Without the Church, we are a mess.  Maybe the reason anxiety, suicide, and depression are on the rise is because we have abdicated the glorious opportunity for gladness to come into the House of the Lord. Something wonderful happens in your life and marriage when you attend church together. You are reminded that God is in charge not you and that He designed you with different but complementary assignments:  sacrifice for the man and respect for the women.

There is more bad news:  masks are not theater. Yet, when a group of parents sent their kid’s face masks to a lab for analysis, they found they contained an alarming 11 types of harmful and potentially deadly pathogens.  The COVID period has proven that we don’t really follow the science, we follow feelings and whoever speaks the loudest.  This rejection of real is science is also reflected in the transgender Olympic athletic movement which is undermining the equality of women in the name of social justice.  This is not progress; it is an agenda and it is anti-woman.

However, let us never fall into desperation in the face of evil.  God has been using evil for His good purposes for a very long time. He is always going to establish His Kingdom.  This brings us to the life of David and his son Absalom.

Key Verse:

“I was glad when They said to me, “let us go to the House of the lord!” ~ Psalm 122:1

Theme:  Are You (UN)Following the Right King?

Scriptures Studied: Psalm 122:1; Ephesians 5:21-322 Samuel 16; 2 Samuel 17; Psalm 41:1-12; Genesis 50:19-20; 2 Samuel 18; Matthew 16:26; Luke 19:10;

Further Study:

Points to Note:

Reminder, the story of Saul & David is Our Story:

  • Saul: [Kingdoms of this world] Self-Centered, Demanding, Disobedient to God, Seeks His Own Glory
  • David: [Kingdom of God]  Other-Centered, Giving/Self-Sacrificing, Obedient to God, Seeks the Glory of God

Kingdom of Saul | Self-Absorbed and Insecure | Passing Away

  • Every moment is about himself
  • Everyone is suspect
  • Everyone is a threat
  • Willing to kill for his kingdom
  • Estranged from everyone he loved
  • On the road to self-destruction

Kingdom of David | Self-Less & Dependent on God | Arriving

  • Wounded by the Lord
  • Made useful to those wounded in the world
  • Contrite, Compassionate, and Hungry for God
  • Made ready to serve others

Symbolism:

  • Absalom represents the younger generation criticizing the older generation and believing they have all the answers.

Episode Points:

  • God regularly uses the enemy’s evil plans as instruments of good for His people.
  • GOD IS SOVEREIGN over the ENEMY’S OPPOSITION. But you still have to do something:  Pray like everything depends on God and work like everything depends on you.

Recognize the Following:

  • David prays as if everything depends on God and works as if everything depends upon himself.
  • When you go to the church and you serve and are involved you are offered opportunities to give and invest in other people’s lives.  Nothing helps your spirit and emotions better than giving yourself on behalf of others.
  • Without the Church, we are a mess.  Maybe the reason why anxiety, suicide, and depression are on the rise is that we have abdicated the glorious opportunity for gladness to come into the House of the Lord.
  • By elevating their distinctions and differences and magnify their complaints – Absalom DIVIDED the country.
  • There are many parallels between Absalom’s Kingdom and Saul’s Kingdom.
  • The Church that preaches the Gospel will be blessed by God.
  • The Kingdom of self is hard to kill.
  • Parents need to lead, not follow their young people.
  • Justice in the Bible always begins with helping the poor.
  • The thing that Absalom prided himself on most was his ultimate undoing.

Questions to Consider:

  1. WHAT KING are you FOLLOWING/ UN-FOLLOWING?
  2. How active are you in church? Are you serving and giving?
  3. What do you think of your 10 years younger self?
  4. How are you serving those less fortunate than you?
