Scriptures Studied:
1 Corinthians 1:26–31 (ESV) For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; 28 God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, 29 so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. 30 And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, 31 so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
1 Corinthians 2:1–5 (ESV) And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. 2 For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, 4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
Isaiah 59:19 (KJV 1900) When the enemy shall come in like a flood, The Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.
Isaiah 57:15 (ESV) For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.
Habakkuk 3:2 (ESV) O LORD, I have heard the report of you, and your work, O LORD, do I fear. In the midst of the years revive it; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy.
Psalm 85:4–7 (ESV) Restore us again, O God of our salvation, and put away your indignation toward us! 5 Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger to all generations? 6 Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? 7 Show us your steadfast love, O Lord, and grant us your salvation.
Revelation 3:1–3 (ESV) “And to the angel of the church in Sardis write: ‘The words of him who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. “ ‘I know your works. You have the reputation of being alive, but you are dead. 2 Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your works complete in the sight of my God. 3 Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you.
Points to Note:
Asbury Revival Facts:
- Feb 8: A simple college chapel service didn’t end.
- Sermon was based on Love. Simple and Encouraging.
- Prayer and worship 24-7 for two weeks.
- Christians from around the country have come in.
- Second time in Asbury’s history of such a revival.
- NO Christian CELEBRITY/BIG NAME PREACHER.
Pastoral Thoughts:
- God does NOT need celebrity / importance / human ingenuity / talent.
- CONSIDERING the times: MAYBE we should REJOICE when the KIDS want to worship.
- Revival is Biblical: in 1 and 2 Kings revivals happen regularly.
- We need revival! Christ is the only one who can change the human heart and bring true revival.
Questions to Consider:
- Who are you following?
- Are you being a Berean and testing everything you hear against Scripture?
- Are you rejoicing in the outpouring of God’s Spirit on young people?
- Are you regularly practicing prayer and fasting and asking the Lord to pour out His Spirit one more time?
