2 Thessalonians 2:3–10 (ESV) Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, 4 who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God. 5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6 And you know what is restraining him now so that he may be revealed in his time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work. Only he who now restrains it will do so until he is out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will kill with the breath of his mouth and bring to nothing by the appearance of his coming. The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, 10 and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

The mystery of lawlessness is in full swing:

1. Scriptural Authority (Genesis 1; 2 Timothy 3) God’s Word: That’s how every other authority gets its authority
2. Family (Genesis 2; 1 Corinthians 11) Men; Parents
3. State (Genesis 9; Romans 13) The State, not welfare but social protection
4. Church (Matthew 16; Ephesians 3) Social order and instruction in the ultimate authority

Lawlessness at work:

1. Scripture is in question
2. Family is redefined
3. State is undermined
4. Church is marginalized 

There has to be rebellion in the Last Days.

Pastoral Thoughts:

• You don’t need faith when life gets better, you need faith when life gets worse.
• Now more than ever you need to be in a Gospel preaching church
• If you measure Christianity by whether or not it makes your life better, the moment it costs you anything, you will give up.
• You come to Jesus not to improve your life but to surrender it.
• The Gospel still changes lives.
• Remember: Jesus wins!

Questions to Consider:

1. Are you regularly attending a Gospel preaching Bible-believing church?
2. Have you fully surrendered your life to Christ?
3. What signs do you see which might point to the “last days”?
4. Are you prepared to persevere to the end?
5. How will you get involved in standing up for our children against the lies of culture?
6. Are you regularly practicing prayer and fasting and asking the Lord to pour out His Spirit one more time?
