“I’m just going with my gut on this one.”

We say that all the time.  Sadder still, we DO this for important things:

  • Who to date.
  • Who to flirt with.
  • How to raise my kids.
  • What job to take.
  • Where to live.

Some people call it “going with their heart,” “a certain feeling,” “intuition,” or something else.  Whatever it is, it doesn’t work.

Jesus said it like this:
Mark 7:21-22 “from within, out of men’s hearts (their gut, intuition, feelings), come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly.”

I want to highlight the last one.  “Folly.”  There’s another place in the Bible you find that word.  It’s the sad reality of many Christians who claim to know God but do NOT know the scriptures…

Proverbs 26:11 As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly.

So we get what we keep getting because we keep doing what we keep doing and then wonder how the heck we ever ended up in this shape …  We went with our gut – and we got what’s in there. Instead, we must seek wisdom and never lose it!

Let’s be honest, we’ve seen what’s inside and many times it hasn’t stopped us from going to it over and over and over again.

Eventually we learn, sometimes the hard way, too often repeatedly: Following your gut gets what your guts got.

And it tastes nasty.

This Sunday, CINO starts. Find out how to stop eating VOMIT. You WON’T want to MISS it. I’m excited. Are you?
