Ugh!  What a horrible day we had yesterday (Sunday, August 28th).  No Sunday services because of Irene (the Hurricane – just in case there is an Irene out there reading this).  And now our troubles just begin as our region struggles to regain electricity and a sense of normalcy.

Funny how much you long for normal when you’ve normal has been taken away from you.

Last night gave me some time to think instead of occupy myself with electronic devises.  And I had this one thought keep coming to my mind.

WE NEED POWER.

Our 21st century routines are sustained by electricity.  You forget how much you cannot do until its taken away.  Then it becomes a constant stream of thoughts like this… “Oh, I have an idea let’s… oh that’s right, you need electricity for that.”

This morning the Dunkin Donuts that were open were packed.  Do you know why?  Because people without electric power will settle for caffeine power!  I sure did.

We NEED power.

Church, let me say that again.  We NEED POWER.

Jesus knew this more than anyone.  As He commissioned the disciples to reach the World, He told them NOT to move until they received the Holy Spirit.

Luke 24:49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with POWER from on high.”

And in Acts 1:8 “But you will receive POWER when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Friend, living the Christian life without the POWER of the Holy Spirit is like trying to cope in the 21st century without electricity.  Sure, you can manage, but POWER makes everything so much easier.
  • Are you trying to live for Christ without the POWER He promised?
  • Are you constantly falling and stumbling in repetitive destructive sin?
  • Are you seeing little to no fruit in your life?
YOU NEED POWER.

That’s why I’m soooo excited about our NEXT SERIES – “HE”.  We will be spending 5 weeks talking about the Holy Spirit, God’s POWER for us and in us.  Don’t be afraid of Him, don’t take Him for granted, and for your own sake, DO NOT be neglect to receive Him.

And the best news is this:
NO STORM KNOCKS OUT THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.
I hope to see you for this exciting series.
