About This Project

The struggle inside of each and every one of us is real. We are destructive by nature and tormented by our own desires. However, our flesh counts for nothing.  It is arrogant and subversive.  Our flesh is always going to make us do stupid things. The human condition is deeper and more corrupt than we can imagine. We need redemption because we are all sinners.

In our study of the life of King David, we see that Baanah and Rechab, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite of the tribe of Benjamin believed they could save themselves through works righteousness, however, the text of 2 Samuel 4:2-3 makes it clear that this is impossible. We can’t kill our own sin nature. We can’t save ourselves.

We don’t win this battle with the flesh by ourselves.  We need to trust Jesus.  He is not just our best friend, buddy, or advisor but He is Lord, King, and Shepherd over us. When He comes into our life, He will expose all that the Devil loves: division, destruction, and disorder and then pursue and conquer our hearts and change us from the inside, bringing us back into right relationship with God. In the same way that Joab and the army conquered Jerusalem from the inside through Warren’s Shaft in the City of David, Jesus takes over us from the inside as He takes up residence and starts to overrule our fleshly desires.

Also, the latest victim of Cancel Culture really stinks but is he the real reason women are objectified? The U.S. is responsible for at least 60% of the world’s porn sites—about 428 MILLION individual pages.  Can this estimated 97 billion dollar industry with more regular traffic than Netflix, Amazon, and Twitter combined each month ever be “canceled”?  In this episode, we will take a look at the sexual revolution, the pornography industry, Hugh Hefner, and Pepe Le Pew and their contribution to racism and misogynistic attitudes towards women and minorities.

Cancel Culture is a moral high ground of posturing for those who have forgone the tenants of Scripture. It’s pointing out the speck in someone else’s eye when there is a log in your own. “Woke Supremacy” is a redefinition of sin and a reorientation around what is righteous, good, and pure. When we don’t identify the true cancer, we will inevitably treat the wrong ailment and society will successfully avoid what it desperately needs: redemption. We must never forget that it is only the Gospel that has the power to change human hearts.

Points to Note:

Reminder, the story of Saul & David is Our Story:

  • Saul: [Kingdoms of this world] Self-Centered, Demanding, Disobedient to God, Seeks His Own Glory
  • David: [Kingdom of God]  Other-Centered, Giving/Self-Sacrificing, Obedient to God, Seeks the Glory of God

Kingdom of Saul | Self-Absorbed and Insecure | Passing Away

  • Every moment is about himself
  • Everyone is suspect
  • Everyone is a threat
  • Willing to kill for his kingdom
  • Estranged from everyone he loved
  • On the road to self-destruction

Kingdom of David | Self-Less & Dependent on God | Arriving

  • Wounded by the Lord
  • Made useful to those wounded in the world
  • Contrite, Compassionate, and Hungry for God
  • Made ready to serve others

Symbolism:

  • David is a picture of Jesus who conquers our hearts and brings us back to God.
  • The early days of David’s anointing as King can be viewed as our early days of being young in the faith.
  • Baanah and Rechab, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite of the tribe of Benjamin represent works righteousness.
  • The map of 2 Samuel 3 depicting the land ruled by the Davidic Kingdom versus the land ruled by the Sauline Kingdom is a picture of the salvation and sanctification process in our lives.  Jesus steadily takes more and more ground from ourselves and brings it into submission under His Rule.

Kingdom of David vs Kingdom of Ish-Bosheth

Episode Points:

  • TRUTH> The struggle inside is real.

  • THE STRUGGLE INSIDE:
  1. The flesh counts for nothing.
  2. The flesh is subversive.
  3. The flesh is arrogant.

  • WE NEED TO TRUST JESUS:
  1. We need to trust Jesus as SHEPHERD who will provide.
  2. We need to trust Jesus as LEADER who will guide.

Recognize the Following:

  • The original sin is the pride of the human heart.
  • Lust is a legitimate desire gone haywire. Your sexual desires can only be satisfied in a marriage between a man and a woman.
  • Sexual sin devalues and degrades the image of God upon women and men across the world.
  • Sexual sin and violence have a scientific link.
  • Cancel Culture is a moral high ground of posturing for those who have forgone the tenants of Scripture. It’s pointing out the speck in someone else’s eye when there is a log in your own.
  • When we don’t identify the true cancer, we will inevitably treat the wrong ailment and society will successfully avoid what it desperately needs: redemption.  We need redemption because we are all sinners.
  • Woke Supremacy is a redefinition of sin and a reorientation around what is righteous, good, and pure.
  • Your flesh is always going to make you do stupid things. We don’t win the battle with the flesh by ourselves:  We need to trust Jesus.
  • In 2 Samuel 5, the symbolism of the number 7 and David’s completing God’s original command to finally remove the Jebusites is a reflection of Jesus bringing to completion the work of our salvation.
  • In the same way that Joab and the army conquered Jerusalem from the inside through Joab’s Shaft, Jesus takes over us from the inside as He takes up residence and starts to overrule our desires.

Questions to Consider:

  1. Who do you think is the real “Villain” responsible for the objectivation of women? [Hugh Hefner or Pepe Le Pew]
  2. What are your motives behind your desires or your “good works”?
  3. Do you have an attitude in which Christ is growing stronger and self is growing weaker?
  4. Are you struggling with pornography or a sexual sin issue? You’re not alone. Contact us for confidential help at info@thedeepend.tv
  5. What battle are you trying to win on your own?
  6. Under the New Covenant, Jesus’ obligation was to die for sins, bear the weight on the Cross, and be our Shepherd. Are you fulfilling your obligation to surrender and submit your life to Him?
