📖 Kingdom Come Part 12: Practicing Kingdom Faith– Matthew 6:1–18 Bible Study

True Devotion Doesn’t Need an Audience

In a world that constantly demands we perform—on social media, in our communities, and even within the church—Jesus’ words in Matthew 6:1–18 confront us with eternal wisdom: “Beware of practicing your righteousness before others in order to be seen by them.”

In Kingdom Come Episode 12, Pastor Tim Hatch dives deep into Jesus’ teaching on giving, praying, and fasting—three essential spiritual disciplines that had become performance-based rituals in first-century Judaism. These practices are still essential for today’s believers, but Jesus challenges us to check our motives and guard against using them to gain human approval.

Grab your Kingdom Come journal and join us for a deep dive into Christ’s radical call to live like the Father. Available in any Waters Church book store or online at https://timhatchlive.com/journal

📖 Key Takeaways:

  1. The Enemy of Peace is Performance
A performance-based faith is exhausting. Jesus invites us into a relationship with God that prioritizes authenticity over applause.
  2. Spiritual Disciplines for the Right Audience
Jesus confronts religious hypocrisy and redirects giving (v.2–4), praying (v.5–15), and fasting (v.16–18) to be done “in secret” where the Father sees.
  3. Understanding the Lord’s Prayer (v.9–13)
Discover a 6-part framework for prayer that keeps us centered on worship, submission, dependence, confession, guidance, and deliverance.
  4. Modern Application
Whether you’re tempted to flaunt your faith or afraid to engage in spiritual practices, this message calls you back to the heart of devotion—where God’s love and reward await.
  5. Encouraging Stories
Hear how Amy Carmichael’s brown eyes and Fanny Crosby’s blindness became blessings through divine purpose, illustrating that God knows what we need—better than we do.
