Are you truly in Christ—or just caught in the net?
In this powerful episode of Kingdom Come, Pastor Tim unpacks one of the most sobering teachings in Matthew’s Gospel: the Parable of the Net. Jesus reveals that at the end of the age, the angels will separate the righteous from the wicked—sorting true believers from those who were merely “caught in the net.”
Pastor Tim also explores Jesus’ words about a scribe trained for the Kingdom, showing why Christians desperately need faithful Bible teachers who bring out treasures “old and new.” The episode concludes with Jesus’ shocking rejection in Nazareth, where unbelief and dishonor shut down the power of God.
Key Themes from Matthew 13:47–58
- Why not everyone “in the net” truly belongs to Christ
- How end-times judgment mirrors Exodus and Revelation
- What makes a biblical, trustworthy teacher of God’s Word
- Why dishonor and unbelief hinder God’s work in our lives
- Four ways God grows your faith so you endure to the end
Theological Insights from Matthew 13:47–58
-
The Parable of the Net reveals final judgment. Jesus teaches that the Kingdom gathers all kinds, but the angels will ultimately separate true believers from false believers.
-
Church attendance is not salvation. Being “in the net” is not the same as being in Christ; many inside the church are not genuine followers.
-
Tribulation exposes real faith. Hardship reveals those who truly belong to Jesus and those who only claim Him.
-
A scribe trained for the Kingdom teaches Scripture faithfully. Jesus endorses teachers who bring out treasures “old and new,” connecting the Old Testament and the New through Christ.
-
Nazareth warns against unbelief and dishonor. Familiarity blinded Jesus’ hometown; unbelief shut down God’s power.
-
Faith must grow. Scripture, trials, prayer, and Christian fellowship strengthen and mature genuine faith.
Application for Believers Today
- Examine your faith. Ask honestly: Am I truly following Christ or just near the things of God?
- Prioritize biblical teaching. Seek expository teachers who open Scripture, connect Old & New Testaments, and apply truth faithfully.
- Honor Jesus in your daily life. Worship consistently, give generously, obey Scripture, and keep Christ first in decisions.
- Confront unbelief. Pray for God to strengthen weak areas of faith and resist cynicism or familiarity.
- Stay in Christian community. Fellowship guards against sin’s deception and helps sustain enduring faith.
- Embrace trials as faith-builders. View hardships as moments where God strengthens and refines your trust in Him.
