📖 Kingdom Come Part 10: Sermon on the Mount Explained – Matthew 5:1–20 Bible Study | Kingdom Come Ep. 10
In this powerful teaching, Pastor Tim Hatch walks us through Matthew 5:1–20—the opening verses of the Sermon on the Mount. These foundational truths reveal the heart of Jesus’ kingdom and what it means to truly be His disciple.
From the Beatitudes to the call to be salt and light, this passage flips worldly values upside down and invites believers into the radical, transformative life of the Kingdom of God. You’ll learn why Jesus never watered down truth to attract the crowd, how true happiness begins with spiritual poverty, and how your identity in Christ sets you apart to make a difference in a broken world.
Jesus not only preached the Law—He fulfilled it. And now, by faith, His righteousness is yours.
Whether you’re a seeker, a new believer, or a seasoned Christian, this episode will challenge and inspire you to evaluate where you stand: Are you in the crowd—or are you a disciple? Join us as we explore the upside-down blessings of the Kingdom and walk in the light of God’s truth.
🔑
Application for Today:
- Take the Beatitude Test
Examine your heart: Are you spiritually poor? Do you mourn over sin? Do you hunger for righteousness? Let God search your soul.
- Live from Identity, Not Effort
You are salt and light. Don’t try to become it—walk in the identity Christ gave you. Be visible, be bold, be holy.
- Expect Rejection, Embrace Joy
Don’t live for the world’s approval. If you’re persecuted for Christ, you’re in good company. Rejoice in your eternal reward.
- Press Toward Righteousness
Hunger for God’s truth and holiness. Don’t relax His commands—honor them through a transformed life.
- Pursue Inner Purity, Not Outer Applause
God looks at the heart. Ask the Holy Spirit to purify your motives, not just your behavior.
- Be a Peacemaker
Don’t just avoid conflict—bring peace through forgiveness, humility, and gospel truth.
- Shine Together with the Church
Don’t isolate. Light shines brightest in community. Be faithful in church, in small group, and in mission.
- Marvel at Grace
Jesus fulfilled the Law for you. Rest in His righteousness, not your own.

📖 Key Takeaways:
- Kingdom Living Flips the Script
Jesus redefines what it means to be “blessed.” True happiness comes from brokenness, humility, hunger for righteousness, mercy, and peace—not power, wealth, or fame.
- The Beatitudes Reveal a Spiritual Journey
They outline a path: from realizing your need for God (poor in spirit) to growing in Christlike character and being persecuted for living righteously.
- Jesus Makes a Clear Distinction
There’s a difference between the crowd, the disciple, and the core. Where are you?
- You Are Salt and Light
You are essential to this world. You preserve truth and bring light. Don’t hide it—shine boldly.
- Jesus Fulfills the Law
He doesn’t abolish God’s Law but embodies it, completes it, and applies it to your life by grace through faith.
- True Righteousness Is Internal
It’s not about external religious performance but internal transformation by the Holy Spirit.
- Faithfulness Will Be Tested
If you live the Kingdom life, expect rejection. But rejoice—great is your reward in heaven.
