About This Project

There is an important quality lacking in our culture:  COURAGE in the Christian life! Did you know that the longest narrative in 1 & 2 Samuel is about David’s battle with Goliath and the Philistines in 1 Samuel 17?  The narrative is not so much about David defeating Goliath as it is the courage of David and the fear of Saul. Courage is not about being bold or brazen or brash, but taking the mantle of Christ and going out of your way to help other people.

Key Verse: 1 Samuel 17:32

“Let no man’s heart fail because of him. Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.”

Theme: Made to be Courageous

Points to note:

Courage: A Lost Art

  • Saul: Zero Courage < Self-Centered
  • David: True Courage < God-Centered

Our Enemy’s Strategy |Goliath as a picture of Satan

  1. Intimidation
  2. Isolation
  3. Shame

Recognize the following:

  1. After his anointing, David serves.
  2. We can either let God shape US through our challenges or we can let our challenges shape our view of God.
  3. Your greatest fear has been handled. NOW FIGHT.
  4. You are made for COURAGE! But your COURAGE must come from understanding and living from the finished work of Christ.

Questions to Consider:

  1. Do you think we have the same boldness and courage our historical ancestors did?
  2. Have you let other people’s opinions of you change how you live or have you been pressed down by the judgment of others?
  3. Would you go after a lion or a bear for taking just one sheep?
  4. Which Kingdom do you belong to?  Are you letting shame, fear, or isolation hold you down or are you going to let the finished work of Jesus give you the courage to be bold and strong?
  5. What can you take a chance and be courageous with?
