2 Kings 4:1–3 (ESV) Now the wife of one of the sons of the prophets cried to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord, but the creditor has come to take my two children to be his slaves.” 2 And Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me; what have you in the house?” And she said, “Your servant has nothing in the house except a jar of oil.” 3 Then he said, “Go outside, borrow vessels from all your neighbors, empty vessels and not too few.
2 Kings 4:4–7 (ESV) Then go in and shut the door behind yourself and your sons and pour into all these vessels. And when one is full, set it aside.” 5 So she went from him and shut the door behind herself and her sons. And as she poured they brought the vessels to her. 6 When the vessels were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.” And he said to her, “There is not another.” Then the oil stopped flowing. 7 She came and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts, and you and your sons can live on the rest.”
Matthew 6:26–33 (ESV) Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Points to note:
- The truth is the GOVERNMENT is “SOLVING” another GOVERNMENT-CREATED PROBLEM.
- FACT: The US Government is giving around 20 million Americans up to $10,000/$20,000 each.
- The Human Heart does as the Human Heart is. If you cannot avoid bad debt now, you will not avoid bad debt later.
PASTORAL THOUGHT:
- Christians must make choices with God’s wisdom concerning the reality they are presented and not one promised by politicians.
- AVOID COLLEGE DEBT – DO YOUR HOMEWORK.
BIBLICAL TRUTH:
- Your life from THIS MOMENT will still largely depend on what YOU do and how YOUR HEART works rather than any government action.
PASTORAL ADVICE:
- Learn to AVOID debt in all of your life.
- Do your research into what you want to study and what a school offers.
- Do you even know WHAT you want to do?
- It’s okay to NOT KNOW!
- College is not Christ!
- PUT GOD FIRST in YOUR LIFE!
