Points:

1 Kings 7 Chapter Outline:

  • 1–12: Solomon’s Palace description
  • 13-51: Temple furnishings

Keep God’s house first:

  • The House of God is where God puts His attention and so should we.

Beware of distraction/extravagance:

  • It’s easy to let minor life goals take the place of God’s house.

The differences between God’s Temple and King Solomon’s House:

Positives:

  1. Solomon’s house is NEXT to the Lord’s Temple.
  2. Solomon’s house is LIKE the Lord’s Temple. (Imitation of Christ)
  3. Solomon’s house is the PEOPLE’S house – with the Court next to God’s house for judgement.

Negatives:

  1. Solomon’s house is MUCH LARGER than the Lord’s Temple.
  2. Solomon’s house required MORE materials than the Lord’s Temple.
  3. Solomon’s house took almost twice as long to build as the Lord’s Temple.

Key Points About the Pomegranate:

  • 613 Seeds ‣Red ‣Crowned
  • Symbol of fertility and love – Song of Solomon 4:3.
  • Blossom on Rosh Hashanah (Israel’s New Year

The place of God’s dwelling:

  • The Bronze Pillars – A place of strength and certainty.
  • The Pomegranate – A place of healing and wholeness.
  • The Bronze Sea – A place certain of God’s sovereignty.
  • The Bronze Basins – A place of cleansing from sin/impurity.
  • The Bronze Altar – A place of prayer.
  • The Table of Presence – A place of sustenance/fullness.
  • The Lampstands – A place of light/illumination.

WHAT does WISDOM look like?

  1. Selfless
  2. Serving
  3. Giving
  4. Administering
  5. Discipling
  6. Communing
  7. Prioritizing God

So that others may live.

Questions to Consider:

  1. What things might you be putting before God?
  2. What changes do you need to make in your life right now?
  3. Are you tithing to your local church from your first fruits?
  4. Are you letting outside things consume you?

Pastoral Thought:

  • The destruction of Israel happened in a single day but its slide took place over time.
  • It’s easy to become consumed with your own life. Seeds of destruction are sewn over a lifetime.
  • When you don’t put God first, you will lack. It is easy to live a “good” moral life and miss out on the goodness of God.
  • We will fail but God’s grace is greater than our sin.
