Furnishings in the Tabernacle

The Tabernacle is a Picture of Knowing the Lord
Exodus 25:8 (ESV) And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst.

Exodus 25:10 (ESV) “They shall make an ark of acaciawood. Two cubits and a half shall be its length, a cubit and a half its breadth, and a cubit and a half its height. We know the Lord from the INSIDE OUT.

Philippians 2:12–13 (ESV) work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

THE ARK
Exodus 25:10–15 (ESV) “They shall make an ark of acacia wood. Two cubits and a half shall be its length, a cubit and a half its breadth, and a cubit and a half its height. 11 You shall overlay it with pure gold, inside and outside shall you overlay it, and you shall make on it a molding ofgold around it. 12 You shall cast four rings of gold for it and put them on its four feet, two rings on the one side of it, and two rings on the other side of it. 13 You shall make poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold. 14 And you shall put the poles into the rings on the sides of the ark to carry the ark by them. 15 The poles shall remain in the rings of the ark; they shall not be taken from it.

The Ark Features:
– Acacia Wood
– Overlaid with gold inside and out
– A CROWN of GOLD (Rim)
– Key number: FOUR
– Dimensions: 3.75 feet long, 2.25 feet wide, and 2.25 feet high
– Four Corners, Rings, Feet

The Ark Contents:
By Definition: An “Ark” (Hebrew: “aron”) is a chest for safekeeping. A repository where one would safeguard items requiring heightened security.

1. Tablets of the Law (Deut. 10:2; 2 Chronicles 5:10)
2.Aaron’s rod (Numbers 17:10/Hebrews 9:4)
3.Jar of Manna (Exodus 16:23/Hebrews 9:4)

THE ARK – Cover: “Mercy Seat”
Exodus 25:21–22 (ESV) And you shall put the mercy seat on the top of the ark, and in the ark you shall put the testimony that I shall give you. 22 There I will meet with you, and from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim that are on the ark of the testimony, I will speak with you about all that I will give you in commandment for the people of Israel.

Leviticus 16:2 (ESV) and the LORD said to Moses, “Tell Aaron your brother not to come at any time into the Holy Place inside the veil, before the mercy seat that is on the ark, so that he may not die. For I will appear in the cloud over the mercy seat.

THE ARK – Location:
Exodus 26:33–34 (ESV) And you shall hang the veil from the clasps, and bring the ark of the testimony in there within the veil. And the veil shall separate for you the Holy Place from the Most Holy. 34 You shall put the mercy seat on the ark of the testimony in the Most Holy Place.

THE ARK – Relation to Israel:
Key Idea: Separation.
Veiled – Kept hidden from view at all times.
Holy – Not to be touched.
Place of Atonement – Mercy Seat
High Priest – once a year – Day of Atonement (Yom
Kippur) – Leviticus 16

Hebrews on “The Ark”
Hebrews 9:3–5 (ESV) Behind the second curtain was a second section called the Most Holy Place, 4 having the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which was a golden urn holding the manna, and Aaron’s staff that budded, and the tablets of the covenant. 5 Above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail.

Christ – Our True Ark:
– Acacia Wood – Earthly Humility
– Isaiah 53:2 (ESV) For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root
out of dry ground
– Gold inside and out – Integrity / Holiness.
– John 14:30 (ESV) 30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this
world is coming. He has no claim on me.
– CROWN of GOLD – Royalty
– “and you shall make on it a molding of gold around it.” (Exodus 25:12)
– Four Corners, Rings, Feet – Universal offer (John 3:16).
– 2 CARRYING/LIFTING Poles – “LIFTED UP”
– John 12:32 (ESV) when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to
myself.
– Poles remain in the rings
– Matthew 28:20 (ESV) I am with you always, to the end of the age.

Christ – Our Security:
1. He KEEPS the Law/Covenant
Matthew 5:17 (ESV) “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.

2. He OBTAINED an eternal priesthood.
Hebrews 7:23–25 (ESV) The former priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, 24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. 25 Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.

3. He OFFERS everlasting provision.
Exodus 16:31 (ESV) Now the house of Israel called its name manna. It was like coriander seed, white, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

Philippians 4:19 (ESV) And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Numbers 17:6–8 (ESV) Moses spoke to the people of Israel. And all their chiefs gave him staffs, one for each chief, according to their fathers’ houses, twelve staffs. And the staff of Aaron was among their staffs. 7 And Moses deposited the staffs before the LORD in the tent of the testimony. 8 On the next day Moses went into the tent of the testimony, and behold, the staff of Aaron for the house of Levi had sprouted and put forth buds and produced blossoms, and it bore ripe almonds.

Christ – Our Atoning Sacrifice:
1. He removes our sins that separate us (1 John 1:7).
2. He opens the door to God’s presence with us
(Hebrews 10:19-20).
3. He establishes us as a royal priesthood of believers (1
Peter 2:9; Rev. 1:6)
4. He makes us one with God (John 17:21).

The Tabernacle is a Picture of Knowing the Lord
Exodus 25:8 (ESV) And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst.

Exodus 25:10 (ESV) “They shall make an ark of acacia wood.

Hebrews on “The Ark”
Hebrews 9:11–14 (ESV) But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more
perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) 12 he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. 13 For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.

Christ in the Ark:
1. He is Christ our KING
(Gold – royalty. Enthroned among the angels.)
2. He is Christ our SECURITY.
3. He is Christ our PLACE of MEETING with GOD.
4. He is Christ our EVER PRESENT SAVIOR.

What Can We Conclude:
– God wants me to be secure in His salvation.
– Jesus is EVERYTHING we need for LIFE.
– He is COMPLETELY committed to His people.
