S5•E4 | Romans 2: Breaking Free From A Religious Spirit

About This Project

“Judginess” = Our Current Cultural Moment.

It’s easy to look at the world and judge others. You don’t have to be religious—it can be anyone. Yet we all struggle with essentially the same things! The only difference is how each sin plays out in our lives. The real issue is that judgmental people don’t like to see God’s grace bestowed on “those people”. However Romans 2:4 says God’s kindness and patience is meant to lead us to repentance!

Religious people are not exempt from the wrath of God. The ground at the foot of the Cross is level: rebellious people, religious people, moral people, and immoral people all come to God from the same footing– repentance and turning to Christ!

Episode Segments:

▶ What it meant [2:00]

▶ What it means: [17:51]

▶ Why it matters: [38:48]

Scriptures Studied:  Romans 2; Jeremiah 17:9; Luke 12:48; Matthew 5; Romans 1:19-21; Hosea 4:17; Proverbs 1:29-31; Revelation 2:20; Revelation 18:2-3; Psalm 81:11-16

The Gospel says we are all sinners and we are here to reach the world.

So much of the tribalism in our cultural moment is based on, “I’m doing this… I’m performing these rites… for my own appearance and my own glory. It’s not obeying God, it’s obeying you. When you’re transformed form the heart and you know that God alone by His Grace has made you right before Him through the death, burial and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ, you obey God because you love God.
