About This Project

In this study we are going to see astonishing parallels! The dark times of Israel reflect the dark times of our culture.

“Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever.” – Thomas Jefferson, 1784

The inevitability of every culture is that God is the judge.

You can try to PLAY CHURCH but the only person you’re FOOLING is YOU. You can’t hide from God.

Kings 1 & 2 Facts:

  • Author: Unkown
  • Genre: Narrative History (400 years).

Theological History of Kings 1 & 2:

  • Begins with David’s end (970 bc), Solomon’s building and ends with national devastation – exile to Babylon (561 bc).
  • Good and Evil kings.
  • Each king has an epitaph… did they follow the Lord or not?
  • True and False Prophets abound.
  • God rules all nations, not just Israel.
  • The Main Theme: There is ONE God in Israel.

Points:

  • “Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever.” – Thomas Jefferson, 1784
  • You can try to PLAY CHURCH but the only person you’re FOOLING is YOU.
  • Idolatry Impoverishes
  • Those things our age calls “progress” is really REGRESS into the ancient practices God forbid then and does so today because they are destructive to us.
  • Personal Godliness is far more important than Personal Achievement
  • The most important thing you can have is a HEART for God.

Pastoral Thought:

  • The distance between who we are and who we should be is only empowered by Grace.
  • Jereboam only seeks God when he needs something.  It is not true faith when Jesus is your fire escape.
  • Spiritual formation outside of God is useless.
  • God does not expose our sin to shame us but to heal us.
  • God’s anger is satisfied at the Cross.
  • God’s wrath is holy anger.
  • Sometimes God puts the righteous to death.
  • God will never abandon us.

Questions to Consider:

  1. Are you living between the person you should be and who you are?
  2. Do you seek God only when you need something?
  3. Do you desire spiritual formation?
  4. Who is the “king” in your life?
  5. Do you worship God for who He is or for what He can do for me?
