About This Project

Do you feel like “This is it?” Are you going through something right now? Do you feel like you’re surrounded by immorality or a hideous reality?

You might be under a boss, a leader, in a family condition, in an employment situation, or in a relationship struggle where you think, “This is just horrible! There’s no leadership here. There’s no fruitfulness here. There’s no goodness here.”

Our current generation has a near-vision problem– we need to learn to zoom out!
We need to get some prescription spiritual lenses over our eyes to see the long term in our life and more importantly in our family and in the generations that come after us and in the historical moment in which we reside in human history.

How do we do that? THIS STUDY WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

Through it all God always gets the job done– He is doing something bigger than we can even imagine!

Scriptures Studied:  2 Kings 8-10; 1 Kings 11:36; Hebrews 12:6-10; 1 Kings 21:21-24; Matthew 10:40-42; Luke 22:20

Kings 1 & 2 Facts:

  • Author: Unkown
  • Genre: Narrative History (400 years).

Theological History of Kings 1 & 2:

  • Begins with David’s end (970 bc), Solomon’s building and ends with national devastation – exile to Babylon (561 bc).
  • Good and Evil kings.
  • Each king has an epitaph… did they follow the Lord or not?
  • True and False Prophets abound.
  • God rules all nations, not just Israel.
  • The Main Theme: There is ONE God in Israel.

Points to Note:

  1. God gets the job done.
  2. Obedience to God can and will bring both problems AND providential care.
  3. God looks after those who look after His Word (and the messengers of His Word).
  4. The Covenant is our covering.
  5. Idolatry does not last.

Jehu’s Zeal:

  1. He quickly responded to God’s calling.
  2. He passionately did his work for God.
  3. He removed idolatry.
  4. He showed discernment in dealing with Baal’s priests.
  5. HOWEVER…
  6. He lacked personal zeal for God.
  7. He was used of God but not truly committed to God.

Pastoral Thoughts:

  1. Jehu is a picture of someone who is so committed to God’s work through them that they forget that God wants to do a work in them.
  2. Nothing shocks God.
  3. Zoom out. Prayer enables the believer to see challenges as God sees them.
  4. It is not up to one person to get the job done. God does not rely on one person to get the job done, but God always has the resources to get the job done.
  5. Whatever our world is worshipping it is temporary and will not last.
  6. Inward commitment to God always trump’s outward performance for God

Questions to Consider:

  1. Are you putting God first in your life?
  2. Why idols do you need to expel from your life?
  3. Are you allowing God to do a work in you not just through you?
  4. Are you living in a state of comfortable Christianity?

Challenge:

Read the Word of God daily, seek Him, and fast and pray for revival.
